We begin the day with a drive to the quaint resort town of Saugatuck, Michigan. Saugatuck is the embodiment of small town America. It’s a harbor village where visitors feel they’ve turned back the pages of time and entered a simpler life. This picturesque village, renowned for its artistic heritage, retains its 19th century character. You will have time to stroll around town and browse through the many interesting shops and galleries when we arrive. Today is the day for their annual Sidewalk Sale, so be on the lookout for bargains!
Lunch will be at the Coral Gables Restaurant, on the waterfront. For over 40 years, it has been one of the most popular highlights of the area. You will have a choice of entrée; Chicken Marsala, Broiled Whitefish or 6 oz. Sizzler Steak. Please make your entrée selection with your reservation.
Following lunch we will board the Star of Saugatuck II, an authentic, old-fashioned sternwheeler for an extraordinary 1½ hour narrated cruise on the Kalamazoo River, and out into majestic Lake Michigan (lake conditions permitting). The boat offers a unique vantage point from which you can experience a wetlands habitat, forest environment, pristine dunes and learn about the layers of history that surround this intriguing area.
